| When Mark met Jon Bon
Jovi...
Malta, April 11, 1999 Jon is currently in Malta to star in the film U-571, and he shall be here for quite long. He agreed to come and sing a few songs at a place called BJ's because a 150 hour music marathon was being held there in aid of two children who needed to undergo serious surgeries and he wanted to give a hand to get some more money for them. The only condition he gave us was to keep the whole thing secret to avoid media attention and for security reasons. He did not restrict us to keep it secret afterwards, so I am not breaking any conditions! I was one of the organisers of the event but it was also a surprise for me because only one of us arranged the deal. As he arrived, I have to admit I did not recognise him, I was not expecting him to pop up but then I came back to my senses when they told me what was going on. He wanted to play a few numbers and preferred to have a band instead of playing alone, so we gathered a few musicians discussed the chords of the numbers, a quick rehearsal in the office and in a few minutes we were perfoming. The crowd was astonished and the aim of collecting money was reached when Jon told the crowd that he would not sing if he would not see the some money thrown in the box. Luckily I had my digital camera with me which I gave to one of my friends who managed to get some good shots. At the end of the show I managed to reach Jon and get a realy unusual autograph from him. In fact my camera has a facility to write memos on the screen, and when I asked for his signature he told me 'I signed about a 100,000 autographs, but this is the coolest, man!!' |
