| When Barb met Jon Bon
Jovi...
We were invited to meet Jon on Wednesday, March 18th 1998 at a restaurant in NYC and attend the private screening for "No Looking Back". We were supposed to be at the restaurant at 4:45 pm. We knew Jon wasn't due to arrive until 6:00 pm for dessert. So ... we started dinner with a representative from BJM, a representative from Mercury Records, and two other fans who had bought this privilege through an auction for charity. Jon was very prompt and arrived with Dorothea at 6:02 pm. It was at this point that I kicked my friend under the table to alert her to the fact that Jon had arrived!!!! He proceeded to introduce himself and shake hands with each of us. While Jon excused himself to go potty, Dorothea ordered a piece of pie. Jon returned and ordered a drink, a Cosmopolitan, and started chatting with all of us!!! We had a wonderful time!!! Jon was really down-to-earth and so sweet and kind!!!! It was like a dream come true!!! We couldn't believe we were sitting across the table from JON BON JOVI!!!!! The atmosphere was very casual ... it was like we all had know each other our entire lives!!! There wasn't any of that "THIS IS JON BON JOVI AND WE ARE HIS FANS!!!" It was more of a social setting and Jon seemed like an ordinary person. Very cool!!!! We chatted for about 35 minutes when before we knew it, it was time to leave for the private screening!!! Jon had to leave and so did we!!! It was after Jon left that we realized we didn't get an autograph or a picture with him. We were really bummed. We walked the block and a half to the theater and saw Jon and Dorothea arrive by limo. As we entered the theater we saw Ed Burns being interviewed. We wanted to hang out in the lobby where Jon was but were told to take our seats. We took our seats but soon decided to try and find Jon and ask for a picture with him. As we were about to leave the theater and enter the lobby, we ran into Jon and Dorothea as they were just entering the theater. Jon was talking with someone while Dorothea was waiting in the aisle for him to join her. We stopped and looked at him for a bit when Dorothea recognized us and asked us, "What's wrong?" I replied, "We would love a picture with your husband!" Dorothea answered, "Well, get over there, girl!!" That was all we needed to hear. We walked up to Jon and he said, "Whatta ya need, Babe?" And I said, "We would love a picture with you, Dorothea said it was O.K." Jon said, "Sure!!!" and put his arm around my friend and I and Dorothea took the picture!!!! It was then that we died and went to heaven!!!!! It was too perfect and unbelievable!!! After all these years, our dream finally came true!!!!! It was a night we'll never forget!!! We happily sat down and watched the movie. Jon had said at the restaurant that he had to leave early for an 8:00 pm dinner reservation. The movie was excellent!!! Jon's acting was superb!!! It was a low budget movie with a very dark and gloomy setting. But, nevertheless, the movie was definitely worth watching!!!! After the movie had ended, we did see Lauren Holly and Ed Burns in the lobby. Jon had left early as he had said and was no where to be found. But, we will always have the picture of the 3 of us together!!!! And, we lived happily ever after!!!!! |
