| Bon Jovi – Wembley Stadium
Sunday 20th August 2000 Well its been 8 months since the concert so I hope I can still write a stunning review for Bon Jovi. It was a fantastic show, so it still sticks in my mind! When I was offered the chance to go a couple of months before the show I thought ‘sure, why not?’ I already had Bon Jovi, 7800 Fahrenheit, New Jersey, Keep The Faith, Slippery When Wet and Crossroad, so I knew most of their songs. I had only heard Its My Life by the time the concert came around, so I wasn’t familiar with their new stuff, nor the tracks from These Days as I hadn’t heard that album either. I went to the concert with my fiancée and his two friends and they decided to stand in the centre of Wembley. I don’t like that bit because I got crushed last time when Aerosmith played there. So I decided to go to the seating area…… fantastic view of the stage and the support band did not look like tiny ants so that was good too! First was a really rubbish support band – its bad if I can’t remember the name! Then there was a new band called Toploader (and I am happy to say I have their debut album Onka’s Big Moka – I reckon they may be Britain’s answer to Bon Jovi!). I think it was about half an hour before Bon Jovi were due on and suddenly everyone stood up and the crowd started cheering and screaming for Bon Jovi. Surely Bon Jovi aren’t due on for another half hour yet?? Any concert I have been to, the main act has always been late on stage, so this would be a first for me! And Bon Jovi arrived in stage early and went straight into Livin’ On A Prayer. After some songs, an Elvis type person started talking – oh my god! Its Jon Bon Jovi!! Jon explained that the reason they were on early was to keep to a curfew. Damn curfew! Although Wembley is in the middle of an industrial estate, there are some housing estates nearby and people would need to go past them to get to the underground stations. If the fans had a good time then they might wake other people to let them know! Hit after hit was given to a very happy and singing audience and I loved every minute of it! Every song was great to sing to and watch Bon Jovi perform it live. I loved their new version of Runaway – great stuff. Jon did go on about Wembley stadium and said he was on our side. Basically Bon Jovi were officially the last band to perform there before it got torn down in November. All us music fans think this is a waste of time and also destroys a piece of history. As of today, its still standing due to some football people saying it may be a waste of money. Bon Jovi played 3 encores. Us fans did not want to let go of the band who were creating history! By the last song Jon said ‘this has to be the last song we do because of the curfew’. And it was a stunning encore to end the show on. Since then, I got copies of These Days and Crush and also started logging onto some site to get more information on Bon Jovi and I hope to build up my collection one day (hopefully something similar to my vast Queen collection, my other favourite band!). So I guess I can say I am a bigger fan of Bon Jovi since their concert and I have got a ticket to the Milton Keynes Bowl, so I am excited about that! Great show guys! You certainly gained a new fan after that night! Lots of love and kisses
