| REVIEW OF THE BON JOVI
WEBCAST CONCERT
10 Feb 2000 Leading into the show, there was like a 10-minute presentation going back over their history, from all the way in the beginning to today. There were snippets of all kinds of interviews, most of the videos, TV appearances, you name it, with information over top of them like "Bon Jovi has been signed since 1983" and "Bon Jovi has had X number of Top Ten singles" (sorry, can't remember the number) and stuff like that. It was really cool to watch, whoever put it together really dug deep in the archives for stuff that happened long in the past and wasn't the normal stuff that gets shown for promo purposes. Let's get the setting down. As you know, it was the studio at Jon's, with a hardwood floor, white walls, and a backdrop that included a velvet Elvis painting. Off to the immediate right was a doorway, and then David and his keyboard (facing front, he had two stacked up on each other.) Immediately to his right was Tico's drum kit. In front of David, but more to his left was Hugh, then Jon in the center, and then Richie over on the far right. Monitors were on the floor in front of them. In between Jon, Richie and Hugh and T and Dave was amp equipment. The fans and other guests (who, from some of their questions, sounded like some journalists, but I could be wrong) were right in front of the band, but about 10 feet back from them. The lighting in the room seemed to be mainly pink and purple. Let's get right down to the fashion details: Jon wore a black t-shirt with jeans, Richie wore a long-sleeve black t-shirt with a black leather vest and jeans, and the pink and purp, Hughie had a long sleeve white t-shirt on, Dave wore a long-sleeve white thermal shirt, with his hair pulled down and back into a ponytail, and sunglasses (he was so close to the lights it looked like his eyes were bothering him). Tico had on jeans with a black muscle shirt. They really seemed to be in a good mood and excited about the show and enjoying themselves! IMHO, the crowd left a lot to be desired, because when you saw them, they weren't moving or even reacting to what they were hearing, but to be fair, I'm sure it was a little overwhelming to be in the studio. The songs? I'm not going to go over the older songs they played, (Saturday Night, Bad Medicine, Prayer '94, Faith, Wanted) because they're all standards and we all know what they sound like. For the new stuff: - "Just Older": Reworked from the bash, it's more of a rocker, and very "up" in its feel. Definitely something to sing along to. - "Say It Isn't So": Hey, they're casting a movie of this name, any chance this is going to be the title song? (LOL, it's probably just a coincidence, I really have no idea if it that's the case or not.) Anyway, another rocker, and very, very Beatlesque. It jumped out of the speakers at you. - "Two Story Town": Yup, this one rocked, too, and sounded (to me, anyway) almost like Chapter 2 of Destination Anywhere, the song. The "getting in the car and driving off" theme is prevalent in this song, too. This one also catches you and doesn't want to let you go when you hear it. - "Thank You For Loving Me": Of course there had to be a ballad. Jon said this was inspired by "Meet Joe Black." I don't generally like ballads, but this seemed to be very melodic and very heartfelt, with some really beautiful lyrics. I'm sure it will chart well. Some other stuff that got said:
